Have you ever gone through a wilderness season? If you have to pause and think, or are unsure, then no, you haven’t. A wilderness season will change you forever; it is a time you never forget. It invades your senses, your emotions, thoughts and feelings and brings you to your knees.
It’s a time where in your heart of hearts you know that God is there, that He is your firm foundation but nothing you are seemingly experiencing brings any reassurance of His presence. At this moment you cling desperately to the Word. It is all you have.
The wilderness season is called such as the elements are harsh and seemingly against you. All that you thought you knew is tested; you cry out to the Lord in pure desperation for a pathway out and there are moments where you think you can’t take a thing more!
Scriptures you once boldly proclaimed are now only whispered for it takes all the energy you have to expel even an utterance. You see the true shell of what you are made of. Dry bones screaming to be brought back to life.
But like any true wilderness environment, there is more than meets the eye. The Lord is with you, but just perhaps not in ways you are used to. He is with you in His Word which never fails. He is with you in worship that lifts your eyes above the circumstances. His guidance comes from Pastors who encourage, pray and care. Messages of those who have travelled the wilderness before you proclaim that this too shall pass if you simply trust God’s promises.
The landscape brings simplicity, strips away all that is unnecessary and brings revelation of things that just need to be let go. It reinforces the deep love God has for you and that pursuit of Him, meets every need.
As you begin to rise and take steps, you start to understand that burdens have been lifted and a greater hope has pierced your soul. It is in the Glory that we are energised and as the season shifts we truly see that when we are weak, He is strong.
